Top Ten Tuesday: TBR

April 17: Freebie (TBR)

Ashley: My TBR is ever growing. There are few back listed titles that
I really want to get to before the year is over. A few of them are series
enders from years ago.

Dreams of Gods & Monsters by Laini Taylor
Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier
Rise of Fire by Sophie Jordan
Ensnared by A.G. Howard
The Girl at The Center of the World by Austin Aslan

Michaela: The TBR is ever growing as more books are released. I haven’t
accomplished as much reading as I want to this year but the year isn't
even close to being over yet.
Current TBR:
Heart of Iron by Ashley Poston
Seige and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo
Lost Crow Conspiracy by Rosalyn Eves

Mackenzie: I don’t  think that my TBR list will ever stop growing. There quite
a few books that I’ve wanted to read for a while now and haven’t gotten to yet
because of new releases from some of my favorite authors, or just not enough
time in the year. I unfortunately am ill equipped to read in the car for long
periods of time unlike both Ashley and Michaela so I don’t usually get as many
books read as they do.

Currently on my TBR that I plan on reading this year are:
The Girl with the Red Balloon by Katherine Locke
Strange the Dreamer- Laini Taylor
The Grisha Trilogy and Six of Crows Duology- Leigh Bardugo

Review: When Dimple Met Rishi

Title:When Dimple Met Rishi
Author:Sandhya Menon
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Pages:380
Synopsis:(from GoodReads)
Dimple Shah has it all figured out. With graduation behind her, she’s more
than ready for a break from her family, from Mamma’s inexplicable obsession with her
finding the “Ideal Indian Husband.” Ugh.

Rishi Patel is a hopeless romantic. So when his parents tell him that his future
wife will be attending the same summer program as him—wherein he’ll have to woo
her—he’s totally on board.

Rating: 5/5 stars

I definitely connected with Dimple in this book, I’m in my second semester of
my freshman year of college, I survive on way to much coffee, and am pursuing
a field where its tough being a girl but it is soo worth it. Dimple and Rishi have a
very adorable relationship in my opinion. I mean if my parents tried to pair me
with some guy I hadn't seen since i was a child, I’d be furious too but they set
all the angry feelings aside towards the end and I was smiling like a dork as I was
reading it. I love the influence of Celia and Rishi’s little brother, Ashish on their
relationship and the story of the book.  Also just in case an y’all are curious,
I WOULD NOT THROW MY COFFEE AT A BOY. (I like it to much)

Review: Obsidio

Authors: Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman
Published On: 3/13/18
Publisher: Knopf Books
Page Count: 615
Rating: 5/5
Synopsis: (Found on Goodreads)
Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the
attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees
on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce,
the only option is to return to Kerenza—but who knows what they'll find seven
months after the invasion?

There needs to be a 6/5 star option on Goodreads. This book tore me to shreds.
I laughed, cried and felt my gut being torn in two. I went into this series
skeptical two years ago. Now that I`m at the end it has become one of
my favorite science fiction books.

Spoilers Ahead Since End of Series

Obsidio is the end to the Illuminae Files. It's where Kady, Ezra, Hannah and Nik
all meet Asha and Rhys. Asha is Kady`s cousin who was presumed dead during
the attack on Kerenza. She truly is the star of this novel on the ground while
Aidan is the wizard in the sky. Kerenza workers and their families have been
held captive by Beitech. Asha is on the side of the rebellion trying to prevent
Beitech from jumping away from Kerenza and destroying those left behind.

I love how Obsidio adds two new main characters while incorporating
characters from the previous books. When it comes time to add everyone
together the point of views can get a little much but having the chance to see
into everyone's thoughts makes it worth it.

Aidan is not someone or technically something I thought i would become
attached to but it..he truly is remarkable. He isn't supposed to have emotions
but the connection he has with Kady is incredible. His main goal is to protect
those onboard the ships he is programmed into however his side goal and most
important to him is that Kady stays safe. That her mission is complete and it doesn`t
matter who has to die for that to succeed.

This is an epic roller coaster of a finale that leaves every “chapter” a suspenseful
pause. It took me 6 hours to tear through this book and i can`t wait to do a series
reread with the girls. They haven't read any of the books so watching their
reactions will be worth it now that they can binge. Between Kady and Asha I can`t
choose who to love more.

Review: Inkmistress

Title: Inkmistress
Author: Audrey Coulthurst
Publisher: Balzer + Bray
Pages: 400pgs
Synopsis: (from GoodReads)
Asra is a demigod with a dangerous gift: the ability to dictate the future
by writing with her blood. To keep her power secret, she leads a quiet
life as a healer on a remote mountain, content to help the people in her
care and spend time with Ina, the mortal girl she loves.

Rating: 3/ 5

When I picked up this book I still had mixed feelings, Of Fire and Stars has been
one of my favorite reads due to the fact I can relate to the equine references.
I was very surprised when I delved into the but in the end I liked it but not as
much as of Of Fire and Stars. Ina is desperate to find her manifest, an animal to
change into as passage to adulthood. Bandits threaten Ina’s village, Asra uses her
blood magic and their lives take a drastic turn. Ina turns very dark and Asra meets
another demigod, a son of the wind. Hal and Asra align themselves with the King.

Ina and Hal’s sister Nismae, seek revenge on the King. This story was intriguing
with the characters and the story, I recommend it if you haven't read Of Fire and
Stars, as that was what I was expecting, something similar but it tis not. Of course
you can read it after Of Fire and Stars but be prepared as it is completely different.

Review: The Traitor Prince

The Traitor Prince
Author: C J Redwine
Publisher: Harperteen
Published On:2/13/18
Rating: 4.5/5
Synopsis: (Found on Goodreads)

Javan`s story was a great addition to the Ravenspire series. I think I
might have liked a bit more of Sajda`s story or perspective. As well as Rahim.
I know Javan is the centre of the story but having more about the girl who risks
a lot to prove his case would have been nice.

Redwine does it again with her incredible fighting scenes beautifully
executed through the entire novel. Strong characters and a plot that keeps
thickening. Not all the characters are safe (which having read all of CJ`s books
I've come to learn this)

There is one scene in particular that had an impactful moment of pure
innocence and the corruption of that innocence. The scene is on where Sadja
takes Javan to a secret place- her own sanctuary- to see the stars and to be taught.
Here she reveals so much about her youth and how the Warden took all of that away
from her. This scene is one that I will recall for books to come. It was the quiet
before the real storm.

Overall the story of Javen regaining his title of Prince during his fight in
Maqbara adds to the entire Ravenspire series. I see Sajda maybe making a
reappearance in the next books a visit to Loch Talam or even Morcant perhaps.

Review: Sightwitch

Title: Sightwitch
Author: Susan Dennard
Publisher:  Tor Teen
Pages: 240
Synopsis:(from GoodReads)
Ryber Fortiza was a Sightwitch Sister at a secluded convent, waiting to be
called by her goddess into the depths of the mountain. There she would
receive the gift of foretelling. But when that call never comes, Ryber finds herself the
only Sister without the Sight.

Rating: 4/ 5
HIGHLY SUGGEST READING WINDWITCH AND TRUTHWITCH BEFORE
PICKING UP SIGHTWITCH! (otherwise there will be confusion and spoilers)

I was definitely excited for this book, though it is not what I had thought it to be.
I devoured Sightwitch, it wasn’t quite the backstory of Ryber Fortiza and Kullen Ikray
I was looking for but it was still good. We got to see what Ryber came from and more
into who she is. Ryber is probably one of my favorite characters of The Witchlands
because she is so different compared to other characters and when she is first
mention in the series she reminded me of me. Ha my hair is almost always in
braids of some sort as is Rybers.

I hope to see more of the relationship of Ryber and Kullen in Bloodwitch or books 4 and 5 of The Witchlands.

Review: Gunslinger Girl

Gunslinger Girl
Lyndsay Ely
Published On: 1/2/18
Publisher: James Paterson, Little Brown
Audiobook: 11hr 37min (432 Pgs)
Narrator: Christie Moreau
Rating: 3.5/5

Serendipity Jones aka PIty our main character in this 2nd world war is a
seventeen year old sharpshooter. Pity escapes her old life in a commune from
an abusive father and arranged transfer marriage. What PIty didn`t expect to find
when leaving was a place called Cessation. A city of lust and wonder. Think Las Vagas
mixed with the Wild West. Pity joins a "theatre" performance of sorts where she meets Max.
A nice young fellow who she quickly crushes on.

A highly entertaining debut novel with corruption, love and adventures.
Strong supporting characters add depth to a story of Badass women .
The narrator adds another layer to this story in ways that reading the book
yourself wouldn`t give. Although the pacing is a little slow at times the build up is work it.
I hope to hear more of Pity Jones` adventures in the future but for now this is a Stand Alone.
